Born and raised in sunny California, Mary Stigar grew up next to the ocean and was a surfer in her teens. Married at an early age, she has two children and three grandchildren.

Interested in arts and crafts from from childhood, she didn't pick up oil painting until her early twenties when she studied for two years at a gallery in Huntington Beach.

For the past several years, her love for the sea and her years spent surfing have greatly influenced her current work and she has concentrated almost solely on seascapes, getting a feel for the action of weather and light on the waves and capturing that feeling on her canvas.
